Earth has two moons

On April 27, 2016, a small asteroid was discovered around the Earth by the Pan-STARRS 1 asteroid survey telescope on Haleakalā, Hawaii, that is operated by the University of Hawaii's Institute for Astronomy and funded by NASA.

The asteroid named Kamoʻoalew is a word in the language of the ancient Hawaiian tribes, meaning: "a moving space object."

Scientists initially thought it was an ordinary asteroid, until they discovered that it is actually orbiting around the planet, in a giant orbit that takes it at a distance of more than 38 to 100 times the distance between the Earth and the moon, and when the asteroid was examined through the telescope, scientists found that it is formed from common silicate that all asteroids are made of, but when examined with infrared telescopes, it was found that the fingerprint of that asteroid, which is visible in this infrared, is completely different from the rest of the asteroids that were almost all discovered.

Then the scientist Ben Sharkey decided to examine the special samples of moon rocks that the mission (Apollo 14) brought from the moon in 1971, and compare them with the infrared fingerprint of this new asteroid.. and the result was that the two are almost identical.. but the damage factors that affected the silicate of this asteroid because of its presence In space, or what they call it Space Weathering, it is the one whose shape and characteristics remain two different.

This means that it was part of the moon, but in some way it was separated from it by the collision of the moon with an asteroid or the fall of a comet on the surface of the moon, which led to the separation of a very large part of the moon or something else.
