Climate is a top priority for the UAE during the Security Council presidency

The UAE begins its presidency of the Security Council during the month of March, and the climate issue is a top priority. The UAE has a clear and strong imprint on this important issue, and it is one of the first countries in the Middle East and North Africa to take strong, rapid and decisive measures to reduce carbon emissions, and to propose solutions and initiatives that contribute to accelerating efforts to protect the environment and biodiversity.

Climate change remains one of the most pressing global challenges and the UAE intends to revitalize and advance conversations related to this issue in the Council during its presidency.

The UAE was one of the first countries in the region to ratify and sign the Paris climate agreement in 2015, in which the signatories committed to work to maintain global warming by 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels by 2030.

The UAE is preparing to host the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), which will be held in 2023.
